Number 11 by Geoffrey Bawa is tucked in a quiet neighbourhood of Bagatalle, where the late architect once rented a house on this lane and later over decades, bought and combined 3 houses to now what stands at the end of 33rd Bagatalle Lane today. Every corner of this property and placement of art collection felt intentional. You can really feel his love and care for this house, from the floor to ceiling white epoxy coating that is regularly maintained and the large frangipani tree that overlooks from the dining area and every wall left untouched by art pieces from his friends.

Some art pieces left behind by friends of the architect: the owl sculpture by Sri Lankan artist, Laki Senanayake, which can also be found in Heritance Kandalama in Dambulla, and the Sunburst batik piece by Sri Lankan artist, Ena de Silva.

I'm glad I finally got to visit to Number 11 on my second trip to Sri Lanka. If you've a few days in Colombo and into art and architecture, Number 11 is definitely right up your alley. It's a short tour of just 45 minutes but every aspect of this house was inspiring and a marvel to look at.

Guided tours at the No 11 are conducted by the Geoffrey Bawa Trust, where it is recommended to book your time slot before going over. Ticket payment was made on site via credit card.
