Golden Mile Complex Engagement Shoot
with Jun Cheng and Wei Ling
An engagement shoot at one of Singapore's architectural icons – the Golden Mile Complex. Jun Cheng and Wei Ling are both architects and this historic building was just perfect for them.
Having moved across multiple cities and countries my whole life, I have a thing for places and spaces. The Golden Mile Complex is certainly a prominent part of having grown up in Singapore, eating Thai food and then grabbing groceries from the Thai supermarket on the second floor – these were things that hold lots of nostalgia and memories for me. So when JC & WL suggested we head to Golden Mile Complex for their pre-wedding photos, it was an instant yes yes yes (!!) from me. It wasn't my first time there for a shoot or a casual photo walk session, but this was when it was announced the iconic building will be restored and conserved for future development purposes. It's such a bittersweet part of life in Singapore, where old things get torn down to make way for shiny new things. It definitely felt like a farewell to this prominent structure and the perfect backdrop to take engagement photos for architecture lovers and architects Jun Cheng and Wei Ling.
It's not the flashy Marina Bay Sands, or the well-preserved colonial style houses converted into hotels and restaurants. And to be honest, it isn't the most well-maintained building either despite being on the fringes on this city's central area. But this place means so much to me and it was such a magical and special feeling to be back here at the Golden Mile Complex with people that shared the same sentiments. These photos will definitely hold close to my heart for a long time to come.
